Noelle brought me a truly special project: her mother's stunning 1980s wedding dress. The gown featured a breathtaking bodice adorned with intricate crosshatched beaded lace and a high neckline, characteristic of that era. The skirt boasted a classic 80s basque waistline, creating a dramatic silhouette.
However, the dress didn't fit Noelle. Instead of letting this beautiful piece gather dust in a closet, we embarked on a creative journey to give it a new life. With her mother's blessing, Noelle had complete freedom to transform the dress into something truly unique.
During our initial consultation, we discussed her vision. Noelle expressed a desire to create a modern corset from the bodice and a stylish clutch from the skirt.
Since the bodice didn't fit, I carefully reconstructed it. I lowered the neckline for a more contemporary look and expanded the back to create a flattering lace-up closure, ensuring a perfect fit for Noelle.
The skirt transformed into a truly exquisite clutch. I used heavy-duty interfacing and the luxurious satin from the skirt to craft a durable and elegant bag. I meticulously manipulated the delicate beaded lace appliqués, arranging them to accentuate the bag's proportions and create visually appealing negative space.
A special touch? A charming blue binding stone adorns the interior of the clutch. This detail serves both a functional and symbolic purpose, finishing the seams while incorporating the traditional "something blue" for good luck.
Noelle was absolutely thrilled with the final result, a stunning ensemble that allowed her to honor her family history while expressing her own unique style. She confidently wore the corset and clutch for her rehearsal dinner, making a lasting impression.
