I’ve never been to a Frocktails event so I had no expectations coming in. It’s the first time it was held in Chicago and it absolutely blew me away.
The dresses at Frocktails
The amount of talent in that one room was unparalleled. Everyone had such positive energy and was so excited to share the art of sewing. If really made me feel like there is still a corner of the world where sewing is not a dying art. Everywhere you turned, there was something interesting. Many sewists designed their looks with unexpected color combinations and textures. There was not enough time in the day to talk to everyone about their look. Each ensamble had its own story to tell. I heard many say “I ran out of fabric, look at the extra seam I had to make” or “this part is so itchy” or “I pressed the front seam a little too aggressively”. And it all spoke my language.
There was delicious food.
And a 360 camera!
Chicago Frocktails Sponsors
Throughout the evening’s raffle, sewists were showered with gifts from Chicago Frocktails 2024 sponsors. BIG items were given away, such as a custom dressform from Ditto Form, an iron from Oliso. A sewing machine from Bernina and a huge cutting mat from The Big Mat Rotary Cutting Surface.
I was lucky enough to win the raffle too! You can see just how excited I am because somehow I chose the most perfect prize off the table! A bra fitting session. Being a gown designer specializing in corsetry, I absolutely can’t wait to take it and learn all the nuances of bra making.
👰🏻♀️If you’re a bride looking for your designer/dressmaker match, I’m just an inquiry away.
